Manchester United secured the type of routine 4-0 group-stage win in Europe their fans had been so accustomed to until recent seasons, as Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, and former Liverpool goalkeeeper Brad Jones with an unfortunate own goal, and Lingard late on earned all three points for Jose Mourinho when they were badly needed.
Rooney was vastly improved on what we have seen so far this season, and was officially awarded man of the match for a lovely goal and a very tidy assist, but it was Henrik Mkhitaryan that really impressed the Old Trafford faithful with a fantastic display on just his second start for the club.
For someone who is supposed to be struggling for confidence, he sure looked bloody confident, as can be seen by this borderline supersonic run he went on that was bizarrely not called a foul at the end of it.
So much was expected of the Armenian when he signed from Borussia Dortmund after being voted the best player in the Bundesliga, and tonight's performance showed why.
Man Utd fans and neutrals watching events at Old Trafford were seriously impressed with the shift Mkhitaryan put in.
Could watch Mkhitaryan with the ball at his feet all day. When he's in full flow he's such a delight to watch. Has done more than enough.

So, Lingard will start on Sunday #MUFC— Jonathan Shrager (@JonathanShrager) November 24, 2016
He needed a big one, and he delivered, now does he become a regular for Jose Morinho? We'll have to wait and see.
