Coming just a day after Robert Huth was charged but the FA for playing a gender guessing game on Twitter, Manchester United have sacked a scout for his racially offence Facebook posts.
The Guardian reports that Torben Aakjaer, a scout based in Denmark, has made a string of questionable comments on the social media site.
Responding to a Facebook member who questioned his pleasure in seeing a glass of water poured over a beggar's head, Aakjaer said;
You must be too integrated in the red Copenhagen mafia if you don’t think all that eastern Europe dirt and shit needs a kick in the behind over the border
On the building on a mosque, he stated
If just a single krone of public money is invested in this nonsense they better do as they are told. Or else you simply have to close down this conspiracy-potential prayer-shop.
He also posted pictures of pigs, declaring them 'our secret weapon against Islamists'
It must be noted that while the former scout accepts it was his account and some of the remarks were his, he does dispute some of the remarks were racist or Islamophobic. Denying "1,000%” that he was responsible for all of the comments as well as posting the photograph of the pigs or mocking Islam.
I’ve never written anything racist and it doesn’t sound like me. I am not racist at all and I am shocked. When I hear this it sends a different message of the person I am.
With United now a major international brand, with a £750m sponsorship deal with Adidas, the club had no choice but to move quickly to sack the scout, with any negative publicity dragging the club into disrepute on an international stage.
