If we told you this time last year that Ashley Young would keep Angel Di Maria out of the Manchester United starting lineup on merit, you would have laughed in our face and unfollowed us across all forms of social media.
And yet, that's what happened.
Obviously we didn't see the resurgence of Ashley Young and the disappointing form of Di Maria coming, but a player who almost every Man United fan had written off certainly improved his game and proved to be a valuable player under Louis Van Gaal last season.
Young started 26 Premier League games for United in a number of positions down the left flank, and looked a far better player than the one who had been wearing #18 in the two seasons previous, and the club noticed.
ESPN are today reporting that Ashley Young has been offered a three year extension on his current deal, which is believed to be in the region of £118k a week.
At 30 years of age, a 3-year deal would certainly be very generous for a club that traditionally only offers one year extensions to players over the age of 30, but having broken that policy to tie down Michael Carrick, it seems apparent that the club wish to keep Ashley Young around for a while also.
