Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has come out and said he wants to leave the club because he does not play enough first-team football.
The Italian was made captain by Jose Mourinho for their recent pre-season friendly in LA, but despite this is adamant that the club is not for him. The 28-year-old told the Telegraph he is still pushing for a move.
Yes, I still want to leave, that what I want. But we will see what happens because we don’t know. I don’t think the injury of Antonio Valencia is a big injury. I don’t know how long he needs to stay out, but at the moment he is the captain, he’s first choice.
I want to play more regularly. Last season I didn’t play much - that’s my objective and my ambition. That’s why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future.
The club are reported to be open to allowing Darmian leave but only if they get a sufficient price for the player. He is the second player to cite playing time as a reason for wanting away, with Anthony Martial's agent Philippe Lamboley also confirming that the 22-year-old wants to leave. However, Mourinho warned Martial earlier in the week that ‘you do not always get what you want in life.'
Jose Mourinho's side will play Leicester City in their opening Premier League game and the manager has confirmed he is hoping to make two more signings before the end of the window.
