Reports began to emerge on Tuesday night that Lionel Messi was involved in a bit of a bust-up in the tunnel at the Etihad Stadium after Barcelona lost away to Man City in the Champions League.
On Wednesday morning, Fernandinho was the one singled out at having caused the incident, as he allegedly called Messi "stupid", according to reports in various British tabloids.
But it turns out that the story was entirely fictional, and Ferdnandinho was seemingly picked at random as he has since taken to his own social media accounts to absolve himself of any connection to the story.
He hit out at the media, and if this was actually him who comprised this statement then his grasp of the English language is seriously impressive.
Eye-witnesses apparently gave the tip off that Fernandinho kicked a tunnel fracas off following full-time.. Should've gone to specsavers.. Or simply not invent a fictional fight.
We've seen a lot of footballers hit out at the British media in recent weeks, such as Anthony Martial who claimed an entire interview with The Mirror was fabricated.
The only thing we can be thankful for is that Spanish football media didn't pick up the story, as they would have no doubt released a dramatic recreation.
Good man, Fernandinho.
