For all the players that Chelsea have brought in and sold for an incredible profit, the only one that might regret letting go could be Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian has been in sensational form for Wolfsburg this year and reports are linking him with a number of clubs who are ready to hit the £40 million mark to sign the 23 year old.
Man City had been front and centre of the queue but now it looks increasingly likely that Bayern Munich will swoop in and make the kind of signing that has seen them stifle all sense of competition in the Bundesliga over the past few years.
The Telegraph are reporting that although City are willing to shell out for the Belgian international, the emergence of Bayern on the scene means that the Citizens are unlikely to be able to match their Bavarian counterparts.
With Wolfsburg now Bayern's closest competitors, the signing of De Bruyne would be incredibly demoralising to anyone who wants to see a competitive Bundesliga. Earlier in the year Wolfsburg defeated Pep Guardiola's men 4-1 with De Bruyne instrumental.
That game showed that Bayern could be challenged but, just like they did with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze, they have identified their rival's biggest threat and have set out to nullify it in the most effective way. Say what you will about big bad Bayern but it's certainly an effective strategy.
