Manchester City have agreed a fee of £49 million with Liverpool for the transfer of Raheem Sterling.

If the deal goes through it would make Sterling the second most expensive British player ever behind the £85.3 million which Real Madrid paid Spurs for Gareth Bale.

Last week Sterling informed Liverpool that he did not want to go on the team's pre-season tour. That was followed by him calling in sick for training.

According to Sky Sports, this was Man City's third bid for the player. The increase from £40 million to £49 million finally saw a breakthrough.

Sterling must now agree personal terms with City and pass a medical.
