A 64-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act relating to the death of Emiliano Sala, Dorset police have confirmed this evening.
Argentine footballer Sala died when the small aircraft he was travelling on disappeared over the English channel on January 21st. He was travelling from Nantes to Cardiff, having recently signed for Cardiff City.
His body was discovered on February 7th, while the remains of pilot David Ibbotson have yet to found.
Dorset police have been investigating the incident, and have arrested a 64-year old man in North Yorkshire on suspicion of manslaughter. The man is assisting with enquiries and has been released while the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Simon Huxter of the Dorest Police had this to say on the matter:
As part of this investigation we have to consider whether there is any evidence of any suspected criminality and as a result of our enquiries we have today, Wednesday 19 June 2019, arrested a 64-year-old man from the North Yorkshire area on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act.
Police have asked the public to avoid speculation while the investigation is ongoing.
