It's been a torrid few months for Liverpool and France centre-half Mamadou Sakho. Way back in March, reports broke that he had failed a drugs test in the aftermath of Liverpool's Europa League tie against Manchester United owing to a 'fat burner'. Sakho was subsequently banned by UEFA and had to watch as first Liverpool marched to the Europa League final and France reached Sunday's Euro 2016 final.
UEFA released a brief statement tonight where they say the defender's case - heard in Paris yesterday - has been dismissed. Sakho said in its aftermath:
“It’s been a difficult time for me but I knew I had done nothing wrong.
“I am looking forward to getting back in the team and playing again.”
Interestingly, the Liverpool Echo reports that no-one from the World Anti Doping Agency was present at the hearing and speculate that Sakho may consider his legal options.
Given everything he's been through, you suspect some high priced lawyers might be giving Nyon a visit soon.
