There's pranks and then there's horribly misjudged ideas like this. Algeria is one of many countries in north Africa and the Middle East that are on high alert as a result of the increasing threat of extremist violence. So, you'd think that there'd be some reservations about a joke that sees a number of people held hostage, brought out to the desert and 'executed'.
Nope, it's good craic in Algeria apparently. Central to the drama was former Rangers and Charlton defender Madjid Bougherra who was sitting in a café when this insane situation took place.
Bougherra, who is impressively calm throughout, eventually finds out that it's some kind of Punk'd set-up and somehow manages to take it in good spirit.
Unsurprisingly, there's been quite a backlash against the TV show 'Camera Cache' that was responsible for the whole affair.
