Zenit St. Petersburg came from 3-0 down to beat Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League on Thursday night. The two teams are in the same group as Dundalk.
The Israeli side opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Haris Medunjanin, then doubled their lead shortly after half time with a Vidar Oern Kjartansson header.
In the 70th minute, Medunjanin got his second from a free kick which Zenit keeper Yuri Lodigin really should have kept out.
The real drama began six minutes later when Aleksandr Kokorin got one back for the Russian team. The deficit was cut to just one in the 83rd minute when Robert Mak hit an indirect free kick through a wall of Maccabi players. To call Predrag Rajkovic's goalkeeping shameful for the goal would not be a stretch - the young Serb turned his back towards to ball allowing it to fly past him.
Giuliano's equaliser arrived three minutes later. Zenit only required one of the six minutes of injury time to find the winner - a diving header from Luka Djordjevic.
From Dundalk's perspective, it's a good result. Zenit would be expected to top the group with Dundalk battling it out with AZ and Maccabi for second place.
Forward to 5:00 below for the start of the comeback.
