Alarming scenes have emerged from Lyon tonight where Tukish side Besikas were in town to contest the quarter-final of the Europa League.
Reports had been coming through of fighting and crowd trouble in the city of Lyon throughout the day, but unfortunately many of these fans have seemingly made their way into the stadium as well as kick-off needed to be delayed due to a mass pitch invasion.
Details are continuing to come through, but early reports suggest that the Besiktas fans, who were placed in a stand above the home fans, began throwing projectiles and missiles at the fans below them, which prompted a pitch-invasion as fans were seeking refuge from the things being thrown.
BT Sport showed some footage just before kick-off in Manchester United vs Anderlecht:

If the reports are true, that is absolutely disgraceful to hear and will likely face strict punishment from UEFA.
Considering what happened in Dortmund earlier in the week you really would have hoped for no futher incidents, and while this appears to be of a very different nature, it's still never nice to see.
We'll bring you more on this as it develops.
