Scoring his first goal as a professional footballer during Manchester United's Premier League opener against Leicester City, Luke Shaw has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a disappointing season for United thus far.
Enduring difficult spells in Manchester since his high-profile move from Southampton in 2014, the English full-back is reportedly set to receive a new long-term contract, and a sizable wage increase to boot.
According to a report in The Times, Luke Shaw is set to be rewarded for his positive start to the 2018/19 season.
"Luke Shaw is close to signing a new five-year contract at Manchester United worth £160,000-a-week."
A move that will make Shaw the highest-paid defender at Old Trafford, it comes after a lengthy spell in which the Englishman looked set to fall foul of Jose Mourinho's standards.
Having had harsh criticism aimed at him by both Mourinho and his predecessor Louis van Gaal during his time at United, Shaw had scarcely seemed to live up to the £30 million outlay the club spent on the Southampton academy product.
The victim of a horrendous injury in 2015, the 23-year-old recently opened up on how close he came to losing his leg after a complicated break.
However, rallying well this season, news of a new Luke Shaw contract comes at a time when the full-back has not only found his way into the good favours of Jose Mourinho, but Gareth Southgate and the England set up also.
