Romelu Lukaku: "We all know a banger when we see one..."
After Chelsea's 2-0 defeat of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, many media members and fans woke up to a Romelu Lukaku press release.
They might have been expecting a bonus post-match interview or a few words on the weekend that has been. Instead, the Belgian striker was pushing the latest Beyond Meat product.
A 30-second promotional video accompanied a bizarre promotion that followed Lukaku into a local London pub as he sat down to eat some Beyond Sausage and mash.
Excited to officially welcome Romelu Lukaku to the Beyond Meat family!
“Over time I’ve really understood how eating more plant-based food, like Beyond Meat, can seamlessly fit within my routine.”

Lukaku Goes Above And Beyond
We get to witness several plays on the word 'banger.' There's some radio commentary that cries out, "Goal from Lukaku, what a banger" and a newspaper headline that reads "Lukaku scores banger."
The man himself does his best to go one step further. "When it comes to food, the beyond sausage has the delicious taste of a sausage plus all the benefits of being made with plant."
There have been plenty of dodgy player advertisements over the years but this is up there with some of the more peculiar.
In the press release, Lukaku even adds some of his own comments. The company isn't even trying to pretend he said this:
It's no secret that Brits love a banger! And it's become one of my favourite dishes too since being in the UK. I really enjoy cooking for the people I love and the Beyond Sausage never disappoints. Packed with 17g of plant based protein, it's the perfect winter warmer and works brilliantly in hearty and wholesome dishes such as bangers and mash, toad in the hole or it can be simply chopped and added to pasta or used as a pizza topping.
Many have taken to social media to make light of the situation. Some say Lukaku's words on suggesting sausage as a pizza topping will void any return to Inter.

Plant based foods are becoming more and more popular as people try to do more for the environment. Beyond Meat in particular is a company that is thriving.
However, trying to portray the Beyond Sausage as something you'd go down to your local pub to have, and the forced nature of Lukaku's comments, seems like a bit of a miss.
