Dutch manager Luis Van Gaal was the maestro behind Argentina's win over the Netherlands last night, oddly enough.
Speaking after the game, Van Gaal reminisced about how he taught Argentina's Sergio Romero to save penalties, so really the Argentinean nation's thanks should go to the genius that is Luis.
Van Gaal – who bought Romero for AZ Almaar in 2007, – told the press last night:
I taught Romero how to stop penalties (at Alkmaar), so that hurts.
We were the club to bring him to Europe. He was a big talent, and someone who has the qualities to do that.
He also revealed that two players had refused to take the first Dutch penalty last night when asked, before he turned to Ron Vlaar. Van Gaal spoke the importance of scoring the first penalty and had thought Vlaar would be high on confidence after his man of the match importance.
That didn't go to plan...
