Isn't this lovely now. Speaking to the media after Liverpool's 2-1 opening day win over Southampton, Brendan Rodgers spoke of how the notorious Uruguayan striker send him a message of good luck before the game.
Luis sent me a lovely text this morning wishing us all the best, which was a great gesture. He is a friend now of Liverpool. We are bigger than any player.
Rodgers revealed the message was sent to him personally, and that he did reply, before continuing:
It was a real love-in. He’s a great boy but he is gone now.
