Luis Palma was almost the hero for Celtic on Wednesday night, but instead ended up with a yellow card for the way in which he celebrated a disallowed goal.
At a deafening Celtic Park, the home side were level 1-1 with Lazio in a Champions League group stage clash, before Palma had the ball in the net with just under 10 minutes to go.
However, VAR intervened to silence the home crowd by ruling out the goal for offside, but not before Palma tore his jersey off in celebration at what he believed was a dramatic winner.
As per the rules, the Honduran was booked for his actions, but given that the goal was ruled out, many Celtic fans online feel that the yellow card should also be rescinded, as it was in celebration of a goal that never stood.
The yellow card shouldn't count if the goal wasn't given. Palma only took his jersey off to celebrate a goal. #CelticFC

Surely the yellow card issued to Luis Palma for taking his shirt off celebrating what looked to be a goal should be rescinded. If the goal doesn't stand why should the card? #Celtic

How can palma's yellow card still stand when his goal was ruled offside? That's absolutely baffled me

I’m confused there how does Luis Palma’s yellow card stand when the goal was disallowed by VAR 😂

Does Palma’s yellow card get scrubbed then?

Saying as the goal doesn't stand surely goal celebration doesn't stand and the palma yellow card is wiped?!?!

Luis Palma picks up yellow card after goal ruled out
Things would get worse for Celtic fans as ex-Barcelona and Chelsea veteran Pedro stepped up in injury time to win the game for Lazio, denying the Hoops a first Champions League point of the season.
Despite his goal being disallowed, summer signing Palma is making a habit of finding the net late on, something which is sure to endear him to Celtic supporters.
On Saturday, it was he who opened the scoring away to Motherwell in the 87th minute, before the home side equalised, and then Matt O'Riley found a winner for Celtic deep into injury time.
Celtic have now lost both of their Champions League group games this season, and will need to get something out of an upcoming double-header against Atletico Madrid in order to keep their qualification hopes alive.
