It usually isn't easy being one of the most reliable reporters on a major football clubs. Those who break news with regularity and accuracy amass hundreds of thousands of followers: the kind of eager fans who seem far more interested in transfers and human resources than the actual football. This means that these reporters have to regularly put with moronic comments below the line. Consider this, from the Liverpool Echo's Neil Jones in the midst of the Suarez-to-Arsenal deal in 2013:
These replies are not always the bulwark of obsessive fans, however. The Liverpool Echo's James Pearce wrote of the latest transfer news around Liverpool today, with Mamadou Sakho set to leave on loan to regain match sharpness. He also wrote of Lucas Leiva:
The versatile Lucas proved last season that he’s also an option at centre-back, while Joe Gomez isn’t far away from making a comeback after 10 months out.
The Reds boss is keen to retain Lucas’ services. Klopp blocked a potential transfer to Galatasaray for the Brazilian midfielder earlier this month after insisting he needed him to stay put.
Unless Lucas pushes for a move prior to next week’s deadline then he will remain at Anfield for the final year of his existing contract.
Lucas evidently did not like this phrasing, that it appeared that he was agitating for a move away, and he shot back at Pearce via twitter:
Pearce has yet to respond, publicly at least.
