Reports originating from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claim that Louis Van Gaal is planning to bring former Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong to Old Trafford as contract negotiations with AC Milan are believed to have broken down.
De Jong's contract with AC Milan expires this summer, and De Telegraaf are claiming that the combative midfielder had requested €70,000 a week as part of a three year contract in order to stay, which the Serie A side are reported to be unwilling to offer. The Dutch newspaper are also claiming that De Jong has reached an agreement with both Louis Van Gaal and Manchester United, and that he has expressed his desire to leave the club and link up with his former national team manager this summer.
The signing of Nigel De Jong would no doubt spark some debate between Manchester United fans, as De Jong is a former City player, and doesn't exactly endear himself to fans of other clubs with his aggressive style. Van Gaal has also publicly declared his intent to sign a central midfielder this coming summer, although with names such as Paul Pogba and Kevin Strootman having been suggested, United fans would be hoping a De Jong signing would come alongside a midfielder of a larger stature.
