In a move that will no doubt delight League Of Ireland fans, Dutch coach and new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has claimed that he will need a barstool to see the game when his side face Australia in the Estadio Beira-Rio tonight, as he complained about the level of the dug-out and the poor view it gives the managers.
Van Gaal is not happy about the view from the dug-out in the Porto Alegre stadium as it sits below the level of the pitch, thus making it difficult to see the action. In a pre-match press conference ahead of Holland's clash with the Aussies, the fiery Dutchman said:
The key issue is football and the manager is part of football and I have no view. Because in the middle of the pitch [on the touchline] there is a cameraman who deprives me of the view, and with me all the coaches and managers sitting on the ground, because we are dug under rather than dug out. That obliges us to stand up. I’m a sitting-down coach, not a standing-up coach. The person in charge of this should ask, so I’ve done my very best, as he will.
Van Gaal was seen in discussions with a FIFA official at a recent Holland training session, and he expects the situation to be resolved, but not before letting his feelings be known as he continued:
The dug-out is at a lower level than the pitch and from where I sit there is also a camera directly in front, so I will be like this [motions from side to side] to try to watch the game. I will need a bar stool to watch the game properly.
This makes us wonder if one of the main reasons behind his decision to take the United job was because of the lovely Audi seats in a raised brick dug-out at Old Trafford? If not, it's surely something he is looking forward to.
