A large section of the West Ham support have got their way after the London club bowed to pressure and pulled out of a deal for Joey Barton.
The former QPR man had been scheduled to undergo a medical at the club this week but when news of the deal was made public, many West Ham fans were less than happy with their prospective new midfielder. The negative reaction was such that West Ham have now pulled out of the deal leaving Barton's hopes of a Premier League return looking rather unlikely.
After the news broke, Barton posted a video online in which shared his regret over the breakdown of the deal. Having thanked the West Ham fans who did support his move to the Boleyn Ground, Barton then got down to the crux of the matter.
Obviously with a character like myself, there’s always one or two who are not so kind or complimentary. That’s part of the course with me these days.
West Ham certainly would have been a good fit for me. I’ve always enjoyed playing at the Boleyn Ground, with a very knowledgable crowd. It’s a place, despite people having reservations, that I thought I could do well and offer something to the squad.
But for this moment in time, it’s not meant to be. I’d like to wish the football club good luck going forward. No hard feelings.
Although there have been links to other Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa, it looks like Barton may have to look further afield if he wants to get playing football this season.
