Forget about the lonely five-a-side 'games' in Loughlinstown, the folks in Montrose are calling. Damien Duff may be finding it a bit difficult to adjust to life as a former footballer but when you're one of Ireland's greatest ever players, there's thankfully no shortage of people ready to snap you up and usher you along to the next stage of the renowned sportsperson journey.
As Iain Dowie found out this week, there's quite a lot of interest from us regular folk about the post-retirement careers of former footballers. Dowie, like many of his peers went down the coaching route but that hasn't gone entirely to plan and he's now the regional sales manager at Go To Surveys.
Fair play to him, everyone has to make a living. But it looks like Duffer won't have too much trouble occupying his time judging by the latest speculation. The Irish Sun are today reporting that although Giles is very much in situ through to the end of Euro 2016, Duff is already being lined up to take his spot on the panel for this summer's tournament.
However, it seems there may also be the distinct possibility that, given the fact no one could be disappointed to see more of the former Chelsea man on our screens, Duff is looking most likely to fill in for Giles on a long term basis after the Euros come to a close.
RTÉ have told us that it's too early to be making any announcements about what will happen after this summer's tournament but we're sure we speak for everyone when we say that, if it is going to be Duffer ushering in the new era of RTÉ soccer punditry, we certainly won't be too disappointed.
