If you have ever been curious about how Irish style has evolved over the past 20 years, you need look no further than the RTE football punditry team. Each of the panel's members has had their own distinctive look and style over the past two decades, which has very so subtly evolved between Italia 90 and our failed campaign to qualify for the 2014 WorldCup
Italia 90
The RTE panel have long been in place. Bill O'Herlihy, John Giles and Eamon Dunphy have been a mainstay on our TV screens since Italia 90 particularly, and they have lit up our living rooms in more ways than one ever since, starting with both their clothes and set design.
In what was a very different time, novelty hats were very much in fashion.
As were short sleeved shirts, the likes of which Gilesy wouldn't be caught dead in today.
Despite being the height of summer, woolly jumpers were very much in vogue, with Peter Collins even getting in on the action.
Beyond
In the intervening years, Giles, Dunphy and Liam Brady tried a variation of styles before settling on the image that we have now become so familiar with.
John went all out with this leather jacket with fur trim, complimented with more fur on his head.
Liam Brady attempted to take the golf look to the training ground, but after two years he was banished back to the television studio.
Euro 2012 And Thereafter
In the last couple of years, and throughout the ill-fated World Cup qualifying campaign, the lads have acquired a more settled look. Bill and John dress sharply for every occasion, and a tie is essential, while Liam generally opts to forgo wearing a tie, probably just to wind up Eamon. Dunphy however, keeps it most casual, sometimes throwing a jumper into the mix, but never, never gives into the Man by putting a tie around his neck.
