Down a goal and down a player, Dundalk did not relent in pursuit of a result in the Netherlands.
Stijn Wuytens, somewhat fortuitously, gave AZ Alkmaar the lead with half an hour left in the game. 10 minutes later, Dundalk captain Stephen O'Donnell departed the pitch after being shown a second yellow card.
Then as the clock edged towards 90 minutes, Ciaran Kilduff craned his neck to redirect a Daryl Horgan free kick beyond the AZ keeper.
It's not that long - seven years - since an AZ side managed by Louis van Gaal won the Eredivisie. Last night was also the first time an Irish side have won a point in the Europa League.
The LMFM commentary for Kilduff's equaliser reflected the magnitude of the Dundalk equalier.
