Liverpool's Summer Transfer Plans Are All Set And It Seems Legit This Time

Those of a Liverpool persuasion will likely know by now that if there are transfer stories coming out of the club, it's likely one of Tony Barrett from the Times, Chris Bascombe from the Telegraph or Paul Joyce from the Express will 'have the scoop' as it were.

When each of those individuals are reporting the same thing on the same day, it's a fairly good bet that someone from within the club wants the 'private' information to be made public. So, with that in mind, fans can take it with some certainty that Jurgen Klopp is planning on wielding a significant axe this summer.

The news coming out of Anfield today suggests that quite a few of Klopp's current first team squad will be moved on this summer with Christian Benteke being the most noteworthy name on the chopping block. As many had warned, the Belgian striker has been the proverbial square peg in the round hole of Liverpool's attack this season and Klopp is not exactly going out of his way to hide the fact that he doesn't see the former Villa man as the solution to Liverpool's attacking problems.

According to each of Barrett, Bascombe and Joyce, Benteke turned down a move to China in the past couple of months and it would come as no surprise that an effort will be made to recoup as much of the £32.5 million that Liverpool paid for him as possible this summer.

Another high profile casualty could be Simon Mignolet whom, despite having signed a new contract, will be edged towards the subs bench this summer if an adequate replacement can be found. Elsewhere, Joe Allen, Kolo Toure, Joao Teixeira and Jose Enrique are all set to depart with Alberto Moreno's future still up in the air.

As for the incoming transfers, the headline news is the distinct possibility that Klopp will look to link up with Mario Gotze once again. Granted that's going to take quite a bit of persuading on Klopp's part, but that calibre of player will certainly excite the Anfield faithful. Although, it must be said, Polish midfielder Piotr Zieliński, who is on loan at Empoli from Udinese, is a rather more likely arrival, as is Leicester's 18 year old left-back Ben Chilwell.

Given the outgoings, a goalkeeper and a striker are also on the shopping list and whatever might be said about the likes of Gotze, Klopp is certainly going to have his work cut out for him this summer if he wants to make those clear-out plans a reality.
