Bad news, at least sentimentally, for Liverpool fans today as it was confirmed that one of the most divisive players in recent Premier League history is in talks to leave the club.

Besiktas board member Erol Kaynar today confirmed that the club are in talks to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, who is currently the longest serving player at Liverpool FC.

While the deal between the two clubs is still some way from completion due to Besiktas' desire for an initial loan with a view to buy, it seems that Lucas' departure is inevitable as he does not seem to feature in Brendan Rodgers's first team plans and the Turkish club are certainly trying to make something work.

Lucas is a player on our shortlist, talks are ongoing.

A loan deal is likely, it could go ahead within the next two days.

The signing of James Milner to play alongside captain Jordan Henderson as well as Rodgers' fondness of Joe Allen have seen reduced playing time for Leiva who was both loved and hated during his time at Liverpool as he became an important player following some initial struggles, but injuries always seemed to hamper any progress he made.

Still, it will be difficult for those who defended him so adamantly to say goodbye.
