Out of the Champions League. A disappointing ninth in the Premier League after 15 games. Several underperforming summer signings. It has not been a good season for Liverpool so far.
What fans do not want to hear then is talk of Raheem Sterling rejecting Liverpool's latest contract offer. He still has two years to go on his current deal but the club want to wrap him up long-term.
According to Henry Winter in The Telegraph today the Anfield side's offer of £70,000 a week plus bonuses has been turned down by Sterling. The paper have a source close to the negotiations who says that the two parties are “nowhere near any agreement”.
The forward is currently on £30,000 a week but the increase of £40,000 was described by the source as "nowhere near acceptable".
