Liverpool's Twitter Account Has Brought Trouble On Itself

Liverpool have apologised after their Twitter account last night  seemed to endorse a tweet that mocked the Munich air disaster.

The Liverpool account had asked for three song suggestions to be played at Anfield before the Man United match on Sunday, and someone responded with tracks that poked fun at the Munich tragedy. Liverpool then inexplicably tweeted back saying  'Have you been sneaking a look at the dressing room iPod?'

'Always Look on the Brightside of Life' is chanted by some people as 'Always Look on the Runway for Ice', while 'I like to Move It' has been sang as 'I like to Munich, Munich.'

The Liverpool account deleted their tweet pretty quickly and it was hard to know whether they realised the hidden messages behind the songs. Regardless they have issued an apology this morning. The released a statement, which is quoted in the Guardian, where they say:

'Liverpool Football Club responded quickly to correct the error of judgment that was made last night on it's official Twitter account in responding to a distasteful and inappropriate tweet. The club took decisive action and the comment was deleted swiftly.

We apologise, unreservedly, for any offence that was caused by this mistake.'

They also said they are launching an internal investigation into why it was tweeted in the first place.
