The absurdly consistent trend of Liverpool signing players for Southampton looks set to continue, despite the shambolic handling of the Virgil Van Dijk transfer. Despite the player expressing a wish to sign for Liverpool, the club still messed it up, and under threats of an investigation over tapping-up, the club withdrew their interest in a public apology to Southampton.
Perhaps the main ambition of this public statement was to retain the possibility of signing players from St Mary's in the future: the club have already furnished them with Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, and Sadio Mané.
A report in today's Sunday Times claims that Liverpool are going to go back to Southampton yet again for yet another signing: they have apparently expressed an interest in signing Dusan Tadic.
The Serbian attacker has a £13 million release clause according to the report, so would be a relatively cheap option for Jurgen Klopp, as he seeks to reinforce his squad ahead of the Champions League next season. Handily for Liverpool, the report also says that he wants a move, having grown tired of Claude Puel's management last season.
Puel has since been fired by the Saints, meaning Tadic might end up sticking around, yet.
West Ham are interested in signing Tadic, too.
It may be time for Liverpool to hire Southampton's scouting network, and cut out the hassle of playing against these players for a year or two.
