Rinse and repeat: Liverpool have dominated a Champions League tie, hogging the ball and owning the chances....but failed to score and then conceded from the opponent's first shot on target.
Loris Karius has still yet to actually make a save in the Champions League so far, conceding tonight from an admittedly superb free-kick by Fernando. While Karius may feel he couldn't have done anything about the goal, Liverpool will feel it should have been avoided. Emre Can dawdled on the ball in midfield, and under pressure, inexplicably played a ball blindly behind him. Spartak won the ball, and saw a cut-back half-cleared by a backtracking Phillippe Coutinho. Spartak attacked again, with Coutinho conceding a free-kick.
Fernando did the honours from the dead-ball, and it's a strike Coutinho would be proud of:
