Last week, Keiren Westwood appeared to knock back suggestions that he was heading to Liverpool. The Mirror reported that Rodgers had targeted Westwood as a back-up option to the often criticised Simon Mignolet and was lining up a £2 million bid for the goalkeeper.
Westwood had professed himself happy with his lot at Sheffield Wednesday. After all he turned down a chance to be Joe Hart's understudy at City for first team football at Wednesday. His form is good and he has kept 11 clean sheets in 24 games this season. Roy Keane was in the crowd for Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Wigan last week.
I have taken to the club, the fans have taken to me, and I'm delighted with how things have gone. I am so pleased to be with a club I feel are going places, and long may that continue.
However, that was before the weekend. Westwood was not even in the squad for yesterday's trip to the Etihad Stadium. Instead, blast from the past, Chris Kirkland, wearing no. 43 on his back, was between the sticks as Wednesday went down bravely. Westwood's name was not included in the list of replacements. That small Sheffield Wednesday fraternity on twitter are already fearing the worst.
