It looks like Liverpool have managed to secure the future of promising 18-year-old striker Rhian Brewster. There had been reports that several clubs, including Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig, were looking at prising the U17 World Cup winner from Merseyside, but an interview with Neil Jones at Goal has put paid to these rumours.

The striker told Jones that he hopes to have made the right decision in prolonging his stay at Anfield:

At the moment, I just want to be playing regular professional football for the first team. Whether that was at Liverpool or somewhere else, yeah it was uncertain.

But hopefully in 12 months’ time I’ll be sat here saying I made the right decision in what I chose to do. I want to be able to reflect positively on that.

Brewster compared the recent success of Liverpool Trent Alexander-Arnold with that of Jadon Sancho, Sancho moved to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in search of first team football, arguing that the forward could emulate Alexander-Arnold at the club:

Sure, I look at people like Jadon. But then I look at people like Trent [Alexander-Arnold].

You can do it both ways. You can go down the road of staying, waiting for a chance and then taking it, like Trent did, or you can look at it like Jadon did, and think maybe I won’t get my chance here, so I can go somewhere else, abroad maybe. I look at it both ways.

I’m going to do what’s best for me. If that meant going Jadon’s way, I’d go Jadon’s way. If it means staying and doing what Trent did, then I’ll do a Trent!

In other Liverpool related news, recently released defender Jon Flanagan is being linked with Rangers, with new boss Steven Gerrard keen to link up with his old team mate.

The 25-year-old has had off-field troubles and was given a 12-month community order for assaulting his girlfriend at the start of the year, but the Daily Record reports that the right back is currently en route to Spain to join Rangers pre-season training camp in order conduct a medical with a view to joining Gerrard at Ibrox.
