In what feel like a pivotal moment in their season, two injury-time Darwin Nunez goals have given Liverpool a much needed win away at Brentford.
The London side have been immense at home all season and it was beginning to looks like the Bees would get another huge home result as Liverpool struggled to score throughout the 90 minutes.
The crossbar was rattled by a Dominik Szoboszlai shot in the first half while Cody Gakpo would have been disappointed that he didn't convert his effort after getting on the end of a Mohamed Salah cross.
There were more half chances in the second half as it seemed that it just wasn't to be Liverpool's day. Then Arne Slot made two wise substitutions to bring on Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot.
As the clock just ticked into injury time, Elliot slipped a ball through to Trent Alexander-Arnold and he crossed it into Nunez to slot the ball past Mark Flekken to give Liverpool the lead. Queue the limb in the away end as everyone could sense this would be a huge win for The Reds.
Nunez made sure of the win a few moments later as he smashed the ball home after being put through by Harvey Elliot who had a really strong cameo. The win put them back to being 7 points clear ahead of Arsenal's match against Aston Villa.
Cunningham Believes Late Liverpool Heroics Will Be Pivotal In Title Race
The late heroics came just moments before Liverpool's closest rivals Arsenal were to take to the pitch to host Aston Villa and had Liverpool had dropped points, Arsenal could've closed the gap at the top to just 2 points.
It felt like a big win for Liverpool and speaking on Premier Sports after, former Ireland International Kenny Cunnigham felt that this win was crucial for Liverpool and it showed the type of character this squad has.
I think this is a big day in terms of the result at Brentford, it just puts huge pressure on Arsenal as soon as Nunez put that ball in that net. All that pressure just heaves on the shoulders of those Arsenal players against Aston Villa.
It's potentially a big moment in the season, Liverpool haven't been all perfect during the season, when you look at them this season when they've struggled for periods, they just find something, they just seem to put together and find a solution and it was exactly that today.
I just like the togetherness, the camaraderie, everyone's chipping in it's not just the 11 on the pitch, substitutions coming on, everyone delighted for each other. You just feel that this is a group of players that is totally together and with the quality they have in the squad, they are obvious favourites to go on and win this title.
With the title race heating up every points matters and after today's result it feels like it's just meant to be for Liverpool.
