With a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, it is clear that Liverpool need to complete more transfers in order to bolster their squad for the rest of the season.
Deals to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia did not get over the line, with both midfielders opting to join Chelsea instead. The club are in the midst of completing one signing, with Japan midfielder Wataru Endo set to join from Stuttgart for around €20million, while Crystal Palace's Cheick Doucoure is another target.
While a defender should also be on the agenda, there are some suggestions they could look to add a forward player before the end of the window.
Liverpool considering move for Mohamed Salah successor
Football Insider and Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad are both reporting that Liverpool are considering a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.
A 20-year old right winger who loves to cut inside and attack from central areas, Bakayoko would likely be viewed as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian superstar has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and while such a deal looks highly unlikely this summer, it is likely to be on the table once again in 2024 as he enters the final year of his contract.
The Belgian would be an intriguing replacement. He plays in a similar style to Salah, scoring nine goals and assisting six more in all competitions last season. He is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in European football and has been linked with a move to PSG in recent months.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool push for a deal to be completed before the end of the window, with other positions more of a priority as things stand.
In any case, it seems that the club are beginning to plan for life after Mohamed Salah, even if he is staying put for now.
