There were scrambles. There were mistakes, on both sides. But it is Liverpool who are joining Real Madrid in this years Champions League final after an incredibly panicked performance which saw them lose 4-2 on the night but win the tie 7-6 on aggregate.
But there will be no sixth European triumph in Kiev on the 26th of May if Lloris Karius performs anything like he did tonight. The German's distribution was shaky, with two of his clearances finding touch. He was also at fault for Roma's second goal palming the ball out to Edin Dzeko who slotted home to draw Roma level.
Another flashpoint in the second half saw the 24-year-old rush out to try and nip the ball off of an onrushing Dzeko and take the Bosnian out. Luckily Dzeko was adjudged to have been offside, so Karius' blushes were spared.
Karius had clawed back some credibility over the past few months, but errors still plague his game. Against Crystal Palace in the Premier League the Liverpool stopper conceded a rash penalty, against Roma in the first leg he was very lucky not to see a fumbled shot nestle in the back of the net.
His poor performance was not lost on people watching the game tonight:
Karius isn't good enough for Liverpool and in my opinion never will be. It looks like Liverpool are going to the final in spite of him

Trent Alexander-Arnold is a better goalkeeper than Karius

Karius is had a terrible game! He’s improved but still a weak link, much like Lovren, don’t know if he can be trusted against the top teams!

Karius isn’t Liverpool’s GK solution not even better much better than Mignolet #ROMLIV

As Eamon Dunphy said in the RTÉ studio after the match, with Liverpool it will always be interesting.
