With domestic leagues around Europe set to resume in the days ahead, clubs will be hoping to get back firing on the pitch after the World Cup break.
It should make for interesting viewing. A planned near two-month break in the middle of the campaign is something that is completely unprecedented and it will be intriguing to see how clubs respond to it.
Of course, the upcoming January transfer window adds another layer to the discussion. Most teams will want to add to their squads next month, with a number of rumours already swirling about potential deals.
While the vast majority of any transfers will immediately see players switch teams, some will be looking to agree deals for the summer window instead.
Serie A star linked with Liverpool & Man United switch
Milan Skriniar falls into the latter category. The Inter Milan defender's contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with European clubs next month.
Team Talk are reporting that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Spurs are among the main contenders for the Slovakian's signature, with all three keen to bring him in on a free transfer next summer. PSG and Newcastle United are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Skriniar is one of the most highly thought of centre backs in European football, and at 27-years old, he should now be in his prime. The prospect of adding him on a bosman would be an attractive one, even if the wages included in the deal are likely to be high.
As for Inter, they are still hopeful that the player will sign an extension with them.
This is certainly one to keep an eye on in the weeks ahead.
