If one thing has become abundantly clear over the past few months is that Liverpool desperately need a new goalkeeper. Well it looks like the club are finally doing something to rectify that situation as reports emerge that the Reds have tabled a £62 million bid for Roma and Brazil number one Alisson Becker.
James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo reports that the bid is worth £53 million up front with a further £9 million in add ons. Roma are said to be holding out for closer to £66 million. The hefty asking price by the Italian club is believed to be related to Liverpool's capture of Mohamed Salah last summer, with the Egyptian's breakout season in England leaving Roma ruing the £37 million valuation they placed on the forward.
Roma sporting director Monchi has not ruled the possibility of the player leaving Italy: “He has the same chance of staying as all the other players we have not received any offers for. If one arrives, we will study it and make a decision.”
Real Madrid and Chelsea have also been heavily linked with the 25-year-old, but with Thibaut Courtois' future still up in the air and Real Madrid happy with Keylor Navas, Liverpool are in pole position to land the Brazilian.
Alisson's agent Ze Maria Neis has further fuelled speculation that his client is headed for Anfield with some eagle eyed fans noticing that the agent has liked a picture on Instagram of Alisson in a Liverpool jersey:
If that's not definitive evidence that Alisson is DEFINITELY going to join Liverpool imminently, then I don't know what is.
