With the transfer market in full flow and Liverpool yet to make any defining signings as they look at a necessary revamp of their midfield, reports are swirling that the Reds have their eyes set on one of Chelsea and England's most promising youngsters Levi Colwill.
According to reports by 90 Minutes, Liverpool have their eyes set on the young England star, with the club now ready to submit a bid. Earlier this week Colwill refused to comment on his future, however, reports suggest that the centre-back is concerned about the amount of game-time available at Chelsea.
The news comes amid speculation about Jordan Henderson's future at the club, with mere rumours suggesting that Henderson may be tempted by a move to the lucrative Saudi Arabian league.
While Colwill could be a potential replacement, he's been shaping his own reputation with the defender shining as one of the stars in England's recent U21 European Championship success.
Chelsea reluctant to see Levi Colwill leave
Despite Liverpool's readiness to submit a bid, Chelsea are reportedly reluctant to see the star depart Stamford Bridge. Colwill spent last season on loan to Brighton where he thrived, however, efforts to keep the star there permanently were made in vain.
Colwill has two years left on his contract with Chelsea, however, talks to extend that deal are supposedly frozen, with Chelsea keen to be rid of any players who won't extend their contracts. Having already shipped off a lot of talent this summer, it's hard to know whether Chelsea will let Colwill go, however, Liverpool are confident that Colwill wants the move to Anfield.
In quotes relayed by the mail about any potential call up to Gareth Southgate's senior squad for Colwill, the youngster reiterated that ultimately he needs game time.
I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to and make a decision. I’ve got to play at the end of the day, to hopefully get there and go to the next [senior] camp.
