Liverpool may currently be in contention for four trophies, but the club's owners will have to look beyond this season as they plan for the future of the club.
Jurgen Klopp's announcement that he was set to leave Anfield at the end of the campaign was a massive shock, with speculation soon turning as to who will replace the German over the coming months.
Xabi Alonso seemed like the obvious choice, with the Spaniard possessing close links to the club and having massively impressed during his time at Bayer Leverkusen. It has since been suggested that he is Liverpool's main target.
However, they will face some stiff competition in any bid to recruit 42-year old. Bayern Munich also regard him as their main managerial target this summer, while Real Madrid are also known to be long-term admirers of his.
As a result, Liverpool will be putting together a contingency plan in the event that they are unable to bring Alonso on board.

Liverpool reportedly identify Xabi Alonso alternative
The Independent are reporting that Liverpool have identified Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as their main backup target should they fail to lure Xabi Alonso to the club this summer.
The 39-year old Portuguese manager is regarded as one of the brightest up and coming coaches in European football, having impressed at both Braga and Sporting.
He has won one league title and two Portuguese Cups since arriving in Lisbon in 2020, an impressive turnaround considering the club's fortunes in the years that preceded his appointment.
It is suggested in the report that Liverpool currently see him as their second choice target, ahead of the likes of Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi.
The Merseyside club are also in the midst of a search for a sporting director, although they are likely to push hard for Alonso over the next few months.
Getting this appointment right will be key is they hope to maintain the momentum built under Jurgen Klopp this season.
