With the heartbreak of the 2018 final put to bed, Liverpool will be looking to launch another Champions League this season, but it could be tough for the Reds to escape their group this time out, given that they are in pot 3 of the draw.
Despite reaching the final in Kiev Jurgen Klopp's men are set to be in the third tier of clubs in the competition, meaning they could be drawn in a tricky group.
Here is how the seedings look at the moment:
Pot 1: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Lokomotiv Moscow
Pot 2: Borussia Dortmund, FC Porto, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma
Pot 3: Liverpool, Dinamo Kiev, Schalke, Lyon, Monaco, Salzburg, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven
Pot 4: Valencia, Viktoria Plzen, Celtic, Club Brugge, Galatasaray, FK Astana, Inter Milan, Hoffenheim
But should Benfica fail to qualify for the Champions League proper, Liverpool will take their place in pot 2 of the competition, meaning that- in theory- Liverpool will have a better chance of escaping the group stages.
Benfica face Fenerbache next Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier, with the return leg in Turkey the following week, and though Liverpool fans will regardless say it doesn't matter which pot they end up in, Jurgen Klopp's men would surely prefer a more straightforward route to the knockout stages.
