Liverpool fans are a patient bunch. As long as they see their players make an effort, they tend to give a bit more leeway for poor performances.
But there is no leeway being given for their new £32.5 million striker Christian Benteke. The same Liverpool fans who were thrilled at his acquisition in the summer are turning on the Belgian striker, and in no uncertain terms.
It started with this less than complimentary comparison:
My Granny Shows More Effort Doing The Wash up Than Benteke Showed Today @LiverpoolFC @ballsdotie @BeWarmers
— Florence Flynn (@flor_flynn53) January 17, 2016
and then everyone had their own lines:
Hate Lallana & Benteke with a passion. The worst £57.5m ever spent. A chocolate teapot or a chocolate house in a desert would be more useful

Our transfer committee have an absolutely appalling success rate particularly on strikers. Benteke has the strikers instinct of a brick wall

Some were harking back to the days of Peter Crouch's 24 hour goal drought:
At this point @LFC would be better buying Crouch. Benteke is a donkey and once again Ian Ayre proved to be a genius in the transfer market.

If only getting into offside positions were valuable:
Benteke's only contribution to match is to drift offside with 30 secs to go
— Gareth Noble (@GarNob) January 17, 2016
Water is wet, the sky is blue, Benteke is offside.

Some fans are "so done" with the striker:
#Burn
Anyone else noticed that sometimes Benteke just doesn't even jump?
