Some people, they say, you'll never please. One of those rang into BBC Five Live last night following Liverpool's League Cup semi-final loss to Southampton.

"Jurgen Klopp has to go," declared the caller.

His reason: The German is not a trophy winning manager. Certainly a strange - and false - thing to say about a man who won the Bundesliga two years in a row with Borussia Dortmund. He also won a domestic double in 2011/12.

He's not a trophy winning manager. He's lost three finals with Dortmund, two with Liverpool.

He keeps playing minor players in FA Cup matches. We've lost in this semi-final, the club's going backwards.

They've not brought in somebody to replace Mané at the African Cup of Nations. He has not sorted out his defence. He hasn't replaced Mignolet or Karius in goal, they're not good enough.

They have not won a Premier League match in January, they're dropping from second to fourth. They'll end up in the Europa League, at best, because Everton could overtake them the way Liverpool are going.

Liverpool is a club based on winning trophies. Jurgen Klopp is not a trophy winning manager and they need to replace him with Diego Simeone by next season.
