Liverpool have started the summer transfer window in an impressive fashion, securing the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for a fee of around £35million.

The Argentine international will be a huge addition to the team's midfield, an area that is in need of some major rebuilding over the coming months. Considering this, it is highly likely that he will not be the only arrival in that position.

It is said that Liverpool are currently in negotiations to sign Nice midfielder Kpheren Thuram, with Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone also coming under consideration.

However, some reports indicate that the club could be also be looking a little close to home for reinforcements.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer.

The Englishman looks all but certain to leave his boyhood club this summer following their relegation, with The Saints rumoured to be seeking around £50million to sanction his departure.

It is believed that Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing him to Anfield, although for nowhere near that potential asking price. Liverpool would look to pay around £25million for the player, a more realistic prospect considering his age and club situation.

Ward-Prowse has spent his entire career at Southampton, although he may feel now is the right time for a change at 28-years old. The likes of Newcastle United and West Ham have also been linked in recent weeks.

This would not be a signing to set the pulses racing for Liverpool fans, although he could be a good squad option if the price is right on the deal.

Whether Ward-Prowse signs or not, it seems all but certain that we have not seen the last of the new signings at Anfield this summer.
