After Argentina’s 2-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lionel Messi received some backlash after apparently ignoring a mascot who attempted to shake his hand.

The Barcelona striker seemed to have completely snubbed the little boy and went straight to the match officials, leaving the mascot hanging and heartbroken.

Messi declared that the snubbing was a genuine mistake and did not signify a deep-seated hatred towards children as was initially speculated. The Argentine immediately tried to seek out the boy to reconcile with him after being alerted to the incident, but was unsuccessful in his early efforts.

Thankfully, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner finally tracked down the boy and righted his wrong. A picture of the boy with handshake-rejecter Messi was posted online with the pair looking delighted. All appears to be forgiven and everything is right with the world again.
