Shortly after scoring Barcelona's second goal against Sevilla in their La Liga clash this evening, a nasty Lionel Messi injury looks set to rule the club captain out for a considerable period of time.

In his first season as the club captain, it seems almost certain that Messi will now be ruled out of the season's first Clasico against Real Madrid next Sunday.

Starting the game at lightening speed, Messi's goal for Barcelona demonstrated all that we have come to expect of the Argentinian.

A scoreline that would take the reigning Spanish champions back to the top of La Liga, the absence of Messi in the coming weeks is sure to be a concern for Ernesto Valverde.

With Cristiano Ronaldo recently departing Real Madrid, some rose the question as to when was the last time both the Portuguese and Messi missed a Clasico clash.

Coming at a potentially crucial stage in the season, fans will be hopeful that this nasty Lionel Messi injury will not be as bad as initially feared.

Initial reports suggest that Messi's injury may not be as serious as feared.
