As another League of Ireland season came to a close tonight, an apparent range of dead-rubbers came to life as betting was suspended on an innocuous enough tie between 4th placed Waterford, and 9th placed Limerick.

On account of some "problems" regarding the game, an inordinate flow of money gambled on that particular match appeared to sufficiently spook bookmakers.

Limerick, already assured of their place in a relegation play-off against Finn Harps, had quickly dropped from 25/1 to 4/1 in a very short spell of time.

Suspended before it was able to go any lower, one thing seemed certain - the gamblers in question were pretty certain that Waterford were in for a tough night.

It has since transpired that this was not quite the case; Waterford 4-1 Limerick the final score in tonight's unusually anticipated tie.

Needless to say, with such relative extremes of money lumped on a Limerick win, there were a few people left rather bemused (and amused) by the whole affair.

Limerick will now prepare for their relegation play-off with Donegal's Finn Harps.
