In the few years since this story was published Barry has gone on to sign for Ipswich Town and make an extremely impressive debut in Mick McCarthy's last game in charge. In fact he was at the centre of McCarthy's last clash with Ipswich fans when some in attendance booed the fact Cotter was taken off in the 56th minute. McCarthy explained after the match that it was just because he was getting tired.

We initially thought they were taking the piss but, unless Limerick have gone to an awful lot of trouble to fool everyone, this young man's name truly is Barry Cotter and not Neymar.

The 16 year old forward has joined Limerick for the inaugural season of the Under-17 National League having previously played for Avenue United and Ennis Town. While we sincerely hope the youngster can make a name for himself at a decent level in the game, his resemblance for Barcelona star Neymar may be something of a barrier.
Young defenders around the country are certainly going to be keeping an extra close eye on him throughout the season.
