The Chinese Super League looked to have extended its lure to retired players for a brief while last week when Jamie Carragher tweeted that, aged 38, he was coming out of retirement.
Official announcement, delighted to announce I am coming out of retirement, looking forward to getting back on the pitch. 🇨🇳 💷

However, it didn't take long for Carragher to throw cold water on the news.
I didn't tweet this so it looks like I've been hacked! Tweet could've been a lot worse!! But if any Chinese club wants to give me 💷 💷💷👍 https://t.co/uJozsD2Daj

The former Liverpool player later outed boxer Liam Smith as the man who had 'broken' the news of his comeback.
Speaking to BoxNation ahead of his fight with Liam Williams in April, Smith explained what happened.
We have a good bit of banter in the gym. This is back in the Rotunda. We take over in the Rotunda when we're not in solitary camp.
He left his phone on the side of the ring and I saw it was unlocked. Because he's Jamie Carragher, it doesn't mean he gets away with it. If it was anyone else they'd get it [too].
I got the phone and I did the tweet and I think it caused eruption all over social media.
Carragher also attempted to get revenge. Though, it didn't work out.
He tried to get me the other day. He thought he'd get me with a Canelo tweet. He tried to tweet Canelo for a rematch.
It never worked, the tweet didn't send.
I got lucky with that one. I might have to change my password.
