Liam Miller has been taken from us at just 36.

His untimely passing was confirmed overnight, having reportedly battled pancreatic cancer.

President Michael D. Higgins sent his condolences to Miller's family and friends.

Myriad of his former teammates and others connected with Irish football expressed their shock and sadness at the news, also paying tribute to his memory.

His former clubs also paid tribute to a man taken far too young.

While you'll hear it said that Miller's passing puts sport into perspective, it also goes to show why sport is important. Without it, most of us would never have known Liam Miller.

Shine on, young man.
