It was always a risk for Liam Kerrigan to take the leap from UCD to Como 1907 in Serie B. But when it was announced that Arsenal and Spain legend Cesc Fabregas would be joining the side, the move began to pay off a lot quicker than the young Sligo attacker would have expected.
In a Match of the Day clip below, the Ireland U21 international's giddiness is palpable, when discussing his famous teammate.
You don't know what to expect really.
When the Cesc [Fabregas] news broke and I seen it on Twitter. I think my phone blew up more when there was word of Cesc coming then when I came myself.
I suppose you can only learn from someone like that. He's won nearly everything you can win in the game, and played wit the best players in the world.
For people at home, they think I'm someone special because Cesc text me one day when my friends were over and they're like ..... still can't believe it.
I'm the same, I can't believe that I'm surrounded by these people. Just have to watch and learn really, and take in as much as I can. Like a sponge I suppose.

“So far so good, I really like Como, and I am really enjoying being in Italy," said Kerrigan in a recent interview. "At the moment, I don’t understand too much of the language, but soon I am starting lessons. So, I am hoping to be able to speak a bit more soon.
"But I am settling in very well. Everyone around the club has helped me out and the players, even though they speak some broken English, they are trying to speak to me, which is always good and helps me to feel part of the team and part of the squad.”
